CRACKERNECK CREEK - FUTURE BASS PRO FACILITY

Damon Pursell Construction has been awarded the contract for Crackerneck Creek Mass Grading and Storm Drainage Improvements. Crackerneck Creek is a 122 acre site located at the SW corner of the intersection of I-70 and Hwy. 291 in Independence, Missouri.

The project includes: Clearing, erosion control, wick drains, subgrade stabilization, mass grading, rock excavation and crushing, and major storm sewer construction. There is over 75 acres of clearing that will be burned and chipped. The chips will be used in berms for erosion control. Because most of the site is in a valley, settlement of all fill areas is a major concern.

A subgrade stabilization process that uses over 900,000 vertical feet of wick drains, “soda straws” that are pushed into the soil, will be installed by a specialized subcontractor from Colorado. The drains will be overlain by two foot of drainage rock. The drainage rock will come from the 450,000 cubic yards of rock excavation on site. There is an additional 575,000 cubic yards of dirt and shale excavation.

All of the excavation will be placed on site in fills for the new BASS PRO building, future retail areas, parking lots, and a dam for the 17-acre lake. The storm sewer is subcontracted to Team Excavating and consists of two precast box culverts totaling 1,450 feet, pipe ranging from 18” to 48” and totaling 2,530 feet, and fifteen storm inlets.

Gary Sheumaker is the estimator/project manager, Arlyn Burns is the superintendent and Kyle Dunwoodie is the foreman. We are looking forward to completing this high profile project on time and within budget.
